I've seen a hack that uses this in place of a small charcoal filter and while the area is larger I'm not sure if it's any better. I like that I can reuse it, but I clean the tank more often.

I bought two of these which arrived compressed in small packages. I followed the directions to soak them in warm water so they snapped back to their original shape and were like a standard aquarium foam filter in about 15 minutes!

I bought this to replace the cartridges in my aquarium filters. My water parameters are fine so it definitely has good bacteria in it, but I think it's too rough for my setup using it alone. I don't think it catches much garbage. When my water gets stirred up, there's a lot of garbage in it. When I wash the filter pads, there are almost none left.

I saw this on a website about how to use this product on pre outboard filters to get rid of cartridges that are a waste of money. This system works great. I use it in my 5, 5, 10 gallon tanks and it seems to work great, all my settings nothing more nothing less, I use it for my galactic purple shark Glofish and other fish. Glofish Purple Barbs are also in my Betta aquarium and seem to be a great flow

I bought this filter media to replace the sponges in my Tetra 40 rear filter because the factory originals were flimsy and falling apart and I didn't need the plastic frame. . Also, the Tetra replacement frame/sponge is often out of stock and retails for around $5. It was cheaper in the long run because I can cut this sponge to fit a 6 filter frame in an aquarium and also use small offcuts in small Betta tanks as an extra medium. Very happy with the porosity.
