All silver is solid cast aluminum and all black is plastic. Surprisingly strong and professional looking, especially for the low price. I modified it to accommodate a custom built rig but the adjustable aluminum stand was an important part of the project and is holding up well. The tote bag is good too. I've found another use for it as I don't need to keep a stand in it, but it's useful. I will buy more of these in the future.

This review is for the stand I bought for the microscope I already had. The microscope has gone from being a useful but frustrating toy to a truly efficient one. This stand is way better than the stands that come standard with USB microscopes. This unit makes it much easier to focus on both distant (in terms of microscopy) and close objects, and it seems solid enough with all the screws properly tightened.
