Buy 185 Kalita Wave instead

After trying several ways to make homemade coffee, I think Kalita Wave is the best (great taste, easy to clean, relatively quick). I argued between the Kalita wave 155 and 185 as there is limited information comparing the two. But size 155 is too small. The base of both blocks is exactly the same, so they fit in the same cups. The difference is that the 185 has a wider opening, making it easier to add water and ensure the coffee grounds in the filter pleats get wet. Also, the 185 can hold more…

I love making coffee the way I like it

My friends roll their eyes and laugh (and get angry) at me when I'm looking for something better (fill in the blank). My roommate drinks about 20 gallons of coffee a day and the Cuisinart coffee maker is rarely idle. But she brews a strong French beer that strikes me as bitter. I love a cold drink or a softer blonde roast. This dripper allows me to make one cup at a time. There are many reviews about the size and method, so here it is. Make a cup of coffee. No longer. It's not difficult to use.

Unbelievable - like trying coffee for the first time

My very high quality coffee maker died and I wanted something for one person. I was fed up with coffee that cooled quickly or just didn't taste that good. It was recommended by NY Times Wirecutter, which I don't fully trust because they get a cut of the sales, but oh my gosh what does that matter to coffee. Suddenly I have HOT, DELICIOUS coffee. I'm not sure why this makes the coffee taste so much better - maybe because it doesn't go through that many cars, I don't know, I don't care, it's the…

Easy to use, great coffee

I have had Kalita Wave for about two years. It is very durable and incredibly easy to clean. I'm always amazed at how consistently this dripper produces a great cup of coffee, even if I don't have the best beans on hand or my brew fails for some reason. I use a burr grinder and scale (16:1 water to coffee ratio - typically around 22 grams of coffee per 350ml of water - my variant with around 40 grams of coating) but haven't felt the need to switch to a flexible neck kettle from my standard…

Nice dripper with great effect

I love this dripper. Used Melita Drip and Melita Filter. I get much better results with this. It took me a while to get the grind and coffee to water ratio right, but once I did, the results were excellent. I effortlessly get the aroma and flavor of the beans in the cup. When using different types of beans, the degree of grinding and the ratio of coffee to water must be changed. I recommend using a scale to make sure you are consistent. I used to use measurements - for example from tablespoons…

Start each day in style

At first glance this thing is tiny, but it's as cute as a button and works like a charm. In fact, I have both sizes: 155 for one cup and 185 for 2-3 cups. At first I thought a size 185 would fit in a cup and it does, but the way it holds the smaller filter is straighter up and down giving a more even cushion for the less grounds, which is needed for just one cup, and also allows the spout to be right at pillow level and not much higher. Let me put it this way, it's just a more elegant way to…

Great coffee but the capacity is smaller than I expected.

I bought this dripper as part of my endless search for the perfect cup of coffee to take home. I tried almost every method: electric dripper (Technivorm), different models of siphons, electric moka from Krups, French Press, Clever Dripper and AeroPress and many others. In recent years my winner has been the Hario V60-02 Ceramic. I've read that the Kalita's flat bottom gives more consistent results than the V60. I was hoping for less babysitting pouring. Most reviews indicated that the 155 was…

Great if you like small portions of coffee. Otherwise, get 185.

Infused coffee is great if you've ever tasted a cup that was brewed properly, ie. perfect pouring of Chemex. But this is not always convenient for a person, so I ordered Kalita Wave 155. It was a great success at first, but over time it only got worse. and worse. and worse. What happened? I finally figured it out today (it took quite a while): 155 isn't good for brewing anything more than about 8 oz, maybe 10, which for me is the bare minimum I've ever enjoyed brewing for myself (not to mention
