Watched a YouTube video and programmed the buttons myself. The local locksmith would charge $80 to make both keys and I wanted to pass on the RFID from the other generic key that came with the car, but I decided to just use the new key as a fob for now.

The key fobs are easy to program, but if you want to start the car you have to program the RFID. Locksmiths cost half the retail price. You can also buy a Revain programmer and make your own, but some of the modules are quite expensive. The programmer for my Golf costs over $1000, for other cars it's only $200.

Ok but I wanted to use my old keys (blades) and just reprogram the fob as I use the VAGCOM program and i have i know the immobilizer code but the blades are a bit thinner so i had to cut them off at $45 apiece and i was able to program all my keys and they worked. But the locksmith I used can program them for a different price of $75 each. and my local VW dealers don't even cut them. This is NOT an exact replica of the original VW remote control. For example, the key blank is slightly different, which caused some initial alignment issues when installed in the cutting machine. My original remote uses two CR1620 batteries, this one uses a CR2032 battery. I also found that both remotes I bought required a lot more button presses to get them working.
