Useless. Waste of time

I had a broken key fob case and was hoping this product would avoid a costly trip to the dealer. Since the metal key is built into this replacement case, my old key had to be copied into this one. Local hardware stores and several locksmiths refused to duplicate my existing key for this replacement. He said he doesn't work with someone else's keys. Great product if you can find someone to cut it. My advice. go to the dealer and have it done.

Pros
  • An absolute legend
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Great Buy - Interior

I have a 2012 Honda Odyssey. We broke both car key shells. We went to the dealer and they said the remote would cost $$$. We gave up and drove with broken keys for almost a year. I finally decided on this product based on the reviews. Today I took it to a locksmith, gave him one of our original keys and asked him to shorten it. Tadaaaa, my new keys are ready for $40 ($10 Amazon + $30 locksmith). I just ordered another one. I am so happy with the purchase. Highly recommended!

Misleading - Interior

I bought this cover to replace a cracked factory remote. I was planning on replacing the circuit board and metal ignition key from my original set with a new one. The board fits well; However, the blank metal key cannot be removed as it is embedded in a plastic case. Therefore, you cannot replace the metal ignition key, making this product somewhat useless. My dealer will not cut a new key out of this as it is not a genuine Honda product. Product description is misleading. Damn.

Great cheap alternative, just need to find a locksmith to cut it

Great alternative to Honda's insanely expensive spare key! Like others here, my case had a broken top screw, but the internals were fine. This key blank has done its job. I had to take it to a locksmith to have it cut (and not everyone will or can cut the key). I called several places and got offers ranging from $35 to $99. Our local company, Ace Hardware, couldn't cut it. The locksmith I went to was able to cut it in about 15 minutes and charged us $35. It's been a month now and the key works…

That's exactly what I wanted!

The metal key piece of my original key broke off the fob so I didn't need the electronic component. That's a huge cost saving, although finding someone to cut the key wasn't easy, for example Ace Hardware turned me down quite rudely as of course they want to charge you $100 for the entire installation. The local locksmith will help you! Tip - these keys can be too tight after cutting and won't turn in the lock. My locksmith knew this and all he had to do was spend five minutes in my car with a…

Works as intended. Just make sure you understand the details below.

This key case comes with a blank key that cannot be removed from the case. The case comes without a security chip, so you will need to transfer the inside of your old (broken case) into the new case (including the security chip). The overall quality is good and almost identical to the original key. You will also need a locksmith to cut a new key to fit the old one. The price of cutting a key varies greatly (from $150 to $30). I found the best price at a local show locksmith ($30). Mobile…

Good enough! on Key Shells

As mentioned in previous reviews, the metal key is attached to the plastic case and cannot be removed. I was able to take out my original Honda key fob and put it in this bag, saving me money on programming. I had to find a locksmith who could laser cut this new metal key. Ace charged $45 but my local locksmith charged me $25. The Honda dealer charged me $250 for a new Honda key. I ended up saving $215. I noticed 3 flaws with this new key: (1) The remote controls are inserted deeper compared to

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • I have no real complaints about it, everything is fine

My two keys to my odyssey broke out of the plastic that contained the real key to the keychain. You can't find a replacement key fob without purchasing a brand new, uncut key. Since I still had working keys I thought this was silly so I taped my key to my original front half of the fob then reused these new keys and screwed it back on to put everything back together and voila! Fixed my keys for $10. Otherwise I would have had to cut out a new key and program the fob into my car and Honda said…
