Easy. Inexpensive.

One of my carbon monoxide alarms was running low so I was looking for a simple and inexpensive replacement that just works. The Kidde KN-COB-B-LPM carbon monoxide detector meets all requirements. Costs less than $15. Runs on two AA batteries. And installs in minutes. The alarm clock is loud and its functions are very simple. They have a test button and a pair of LEDs to indicate alarm status. That's all. If you are looking for an unusual detector with a lot of features, this is not it. If you…

First ran Summer 2013 through Summer 2018, slight difference in units

Model built, purchased and installed Summer 2013 included three (3) batteries. I have changed these batteries once or twice. The device also started beeping with a new set of batteries, so it's time for a replacement. I bought it again and there are a few small differences. It now uses two (2) batteries and the old backplate still fits, but not as tightly as the new one. Since the unit doesn't bounce three or four inches and fall, I use an old backplate. The unit has a 10 year warranty but…

Absolutely useless, couldn't find any stove leaks

I bought this unit in Spring 2017 and installed it in my basement near the stove. A few days ago (a little less than two years later) the heat exchanger in the furnace broke, and carbon monoxide seeped into the basement and spread throughout the house. I had two combination carbon monoxide and smoke detectors on my second floor, but this device was completely silent. Firefighters measured 160 parts per million carbon monoxide in the basement where the unit was located, which is much higher than

It really works! for fire protection

Bought 4 years ago. Put it in the dressing room where we sometimes let our baby sleep in the basement and actually forget it was there, except to wonder from time to time if it's really working. We found out this week. The alarm went off in the morning, I pressed the reset button to turn it off (I guess there's another beep, indicating a low battery and dangerous levels of carbon monoxide) and the alarm wouldn't go, so I kept wondering if he it was was an accident or I need to do something…

Planned obsolescence unfriendly

These detectors have a lifespan of 10 years. By the age of 10, they start complaining loudly and need to be replaced quickly. Unfortunately, this is very frustrating when you are a homeowner and have many apartments. Because like a virus, each of your tenants goes crazy when it starts beeping. And if you haven't carefully recorded which device worked when (which I obviously didn't do), you'll find yourself having to replace it every week, as each of them breaks down unexpectedly, usually at…
