Over time I worry that the amount of plastic on the base as well as the attachments will wear out sooner than the other version which is mostly steel. It also didn't have the variety in slice thickness I needed. I chose to return it for a unit that has the blades built into the base - so fewer parts and hassle with changing blades. This block has 4 individual blades, plus one already in the base.

Really well made for the price. So far I've used it on potatoes, mangoes and onions and it cuts right through them. The only bad thing I didn't really like was how vaguely labeled the attachments are. You have to look very carefully at a small number to choose which one you want in terms of julienne cut size. It would be nice to have a cap to cover the blade when stored so you don't accidentally cut yourself. I keep it in a box because I know I can be clumsy at times.

This food slicer is my favorite kitchen tool! I eat salads and grilled veggies, and the mandoline slicer makes cooking effortless! I can now chop veggies very thin for fried veggie chips and lightly grate more complex veggies like beets and carrots to add to salads. The food slicer is very durable, easy to use, safe and easy to clean. The shelf for storing additional parts is very practical. I recommend this gadget to those who like to eat fresh vegetables often!

This suction cup is sharp! Please do not use this without a pusher and I highly recommend a cut resistant glove! Like a fool, I decided to quickly try slicing a carrot back-to-back with my bare hands without using a pusher and store-bought gloves. It worked great! Even on the cut that was one cut further. 10 stitches later. Since then it's been a great product with easily replaceable thickness inserts and easy to clean. This is not one of the cheapest mandoline planers in its price range. But maybe I set my expectations too high. I found the product difficult to use. The plastic inserts are very thin and tend to grab food when flexed back and forth. The blades aren't as sharp and require a fair amount of pressure to cut anything harder than zucchini. The food slicer itself cannot be washed in the dishwasher. I used it to slice some onions and it saved some time but it wasn't secure due to the pressure required
