Updated: Will Not Deliver (Canon 5D MK III Raw Video)

UPDATED: When I originally posted the review below I received no response from Komputerbay via email or when I tried to contact them by phone. Before I sent the postcard back I decided to call back and when I got an answer things got a lot better. Here is my update. After using the ML RAW nightly builds of July 22nd and following the steps outlined to me over the phone with Komputerbay support; I was very happy to report that I had no dropped frames, with the following exceptions which I should

UPDATE 6/11/2014

UPDATED 6/11/2014: Received a fresh card from Computerbay on the 7th June, works great! I've used it with the new Kingston card reader they recommended and had no problems! I'm leaving the country to shoot in a few days, so this will be a good test for the new map! UPDATED June 4, 2014: The map crashed and I received a warning that the map is inaccessible. "when it was inserted into my camera. My computer didn't recognize the card either. I contacted Komputerbay and got a quick response from…

Don't be afraid of CompactFlash cards

I bought this memory card over a much more expensive Lexar model and I can honestly say it was one of the best purchase decisions I've ever made. This card is just as reliable for a fraction of the cost. Their customer service is also exceptional as I originally ordered a 256GB card but someone from Komputerbay managed to track me down to ensure my camera was reading that card correctly. I'm using a Canon 5D3 and it turns out there was a Canon compatibility issue with the 256GB card at the time

Didn't work at all! Do not buy.

I followed all the instructions: I used a UDMA 7 compliant USB 3.0 card reader (Lexar) formatted as XFAT. The basic copies of the files did not work. Deleting the file didn't work. I repartitioned the 32GB partition and formatted it to FAT32 thinking there might be a problem with xfat. That won't work either. Exactly the same problem. I then loaded this into my 5d Mark II and started shooting some test shots and short videos. There were no recording errors. But during video playback it just…

Corrupted RAW files and formatting errors on 5d3

I bought this card a while ago and after some good speed tests on my Win 8.1 computer I put it on the shelf with a Transcend USB 3.0 card reader. After 3 months I took the card and placed it in a new 5d3.75% of the RAW files corrupted by the white rectangle in the image in File Explorer, Photoshop and LR5. Formatting the card in the camera failed 50% of the time. Quickly formatting exFAT to 128 kilobytes didn't solve the problem. A full exFAT format with an allocation unit size of 32 kilobytes…

Far from the advertised speeds

I used a computer bay 64GB 1000x for Magic Lantern RAW on a 5D Mark III which worked fine for me and needed more space. This card is not fast enough. Make Magic Lantern RAW. It starts slow and runs in lag spikes. If a lag spike occurs before the slow start catches up, or if multiple lag spikes occur in a row, frames will be dropped. I also saw that ML gave some errors about failed write attempts. From a benchmarking point of view, using the same Blackmagicdesign drive speed test shown in the…

Not compatible with Magic Lantern RAW video

I have a 5D mkIII. Initially, after playing around with it for a very long time, I was able to get about 12 minutes with no frame loss. But the closer you get to filling, the slower the map becomes. It also gets very hot (many say this is normal). I also sometimes had corrupted files and the card froze and then had to reformat. If you have this card, I've heard their customer service (see what I did there?) is great! I just don't have time to send cards back and forth until I get a working one.

So far so good for computers and accessories

I've had the card for a little over a month. Bought for shooting RAW movies. The card was amazing. I also took two 19 hour time lapses a week apart and they turned out great. It's also my largest CF card and worked great in time lapse as I didn't have to switch cards as often. I know there have been mixed results with these cards, but I'm happy with mine and I know that if their cards fail, Komputer Bay is ready to fix things.
