You wouldn't know how good it was unless you used another conventional tripod head and played around with it. I have an older Platinum Plus 6600DX from Sunpak which is pretty strong on its feet, but the head was really disappointing - jerky movement, adjustment knobs too tight or too loose, and overall poor quality control.
