The first lasted over 25 years

After hundreds if not thousands of knife sharpenings, the whetstone that came with my original set began to wear out. If this one works as well as the first one, it will pay out dozens of times over.

Pros
  • whetstones
Cons
  • Doubtful

Removes material, good for whetstones

If you need to remove material, this stone is for it. It cuts well and gives a good edge for sharpening smaller stones. Because it removes so much material that you'll often want to treat this stone with a small amount of light oil, I use Hopps gun oil.

Pros
  • Power tools and hand tools
Cons
  • Small parts

Direct replacement for my old red sharpener

Direct replacement for the red sharpener in my Lansky system. This system has served me for 19 years and I have sharpened countless knives and the plastic around the thumbscrew broke when tightening it recently. This one is a perfect replacement and gets me back to sharpening. The Lansky system is a great tool that allows you to hold an angle that I would not otherwise be able to hold accurately. I've had razor sharpening stones and tried my knives with them, but Lansky does a better job.

Pros
  • hand tool
Cons
  • unreliable
