It's well made and retains heat fairly well. I have two problems with this mug: 1. it's too tall and 2. it's not wide enough to roll well with a brush. I've tried both my super badger hair brush and my best badger hair brush and neither can get the sweep needed to get the lather I got with the old china bowl I was trying to replace. Pour in hot water to heat the mug and you're done! I wanted something more classic and that suits me. It's a little bigger than expected, but the size is welcome. It has 3 bumps on the bottom and I can say they really help lather up quickly! I look forward to using my different brushes and soaps in this new mug!

When I lathered with this, my brush kept slipping and hitting the sides of the bowl, preventing me from really lathering. I'd recommend something with walls that aren't that high, and wider if you want. I recently bought another bowl to replace this one and my foam is a hundred times better. But it is a great entry-level bowl.

Exactly as I imagined. Solid and heavy. This helps retain heat, especially if you preheat it with some hot water while using shaving cream before mixing in a batch of shaving cream. There is nothing better than warm foam while shaving.

I'm new to shaving with a double edged blade and I made a real mess trying to lather my face. I received this mug and I'm able to whip up a really good froth in less than a minute. The mug is very pretty and goes well with the rest of the set.

An attractive addition to the shaving room. The only drawback is that the opening of the bowl is quite large, but tapers off a bit. Large pucks, like L'Occitane Cade, need to be melted down a bit to fit the bottom of the bowl.
