Good price, better deals

For the price my expectations were low and at first I was willing to return it as it seemed like the temperature was a few degrees colder. It comes with K thermocouples and 3 AAA batteries. However, I noticed that after turning the device on for a few minutes (5 minutes), the accuracy was within 1/2 degree (F) at room temperature. It looks like it will take a few minutes to "stabilize". I plan to use it for HVAC, but I'm a DIYer so I won't be able to use it on a daily basis. It would be nice to

  • Price
Cons
  • Hard to say

Absolutely disappointing. I had my doubts about the $20 thermometer. Thought it might be a quick read that doesn't have to be exact. I ended up at work when my boss bought a $300 Fluke thermometer. I thought why not check these two thermometers. We tested the AMAZON sensor with a Fluke test tool and found the sensors to be accurate. The AMAZON thermometer, on the other hand, showed an error of more than 8 degrees when using Fluke probes, well above the +0.6 °C for which it is designed. The…

The right tool for high temperatures

My daughter bought a raku kiln. We fired it up, checked the temp with an infrared gauge that maxed out at 600F, tore off the top and decided we needed more control. I got a Leaton with a K-sensor to fit the 2300F and we tried again. At first everything went smoothly. We knew best what temperature we were at and were able to fire two good batches of stoneware by cranking the kiln to 1800F. Best of all, we didn't rip the top off. This is the only tool that did what I needed and did it well. So if

Pros
  • Very fast delivery
Cons
  • Doubt

The one I have is a piece of junk. I really needed one to fix passers-by at a restaurant I own. I paid for next day delivery because I really needed it. The unit I got isn't even close, about 9 degrees Fahrenheit at room temperature, the sensors in the fridge don't go below 50 when the box is 38. My cheap little cooking thermometers are much more accurate. I can line up 6 of my thermometers and they will all read within one degree of each other and this Leaton instrument is at least 9 degrees…

Great tool to keep track of the coffee roasting temperature!

I bought a Leaton digital thermocouple thermometer to measure the temperature of coffee beans during roasting. For reproducible roasting it is important to control the temperature in different roasting stages. The Leaton thermocouple is great at keeping track of temperature during coffee roasting and allows me to reproduce the results. the first crack, the start of the second crack, etc.), the actual roasting minutes and the temperature at that moment of roasting. Temperature is important…

Pros
  • High test scores for hold and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as others

Bought as a relatively cheap way to check temperatures where my IR thermostat can't work (like in air ducts). It refreshes the display about twice a second. I've noticed that the two channels don't always read the same temperature when the sensors are close together (e.g. in boiling water), but this seems to be mainly a thermal inertia issue - once the reading stabilizes, the both channels are within 0.5 to 1.5 degrees apart as tested in ice water and boiling water. I tested with another…
