Whetstones are best used

I'm a complete novice when it comes to sharpening and even I was able to use this along with a few other stones to bring my abandoned Wusthofs back to life . For any other beginner, start with a sacrificial knife until you master some of the basics. I ruined the shape of one of my knives by spending too much time on a fine grit stone. But it's my fault, not the stone's. This stone is very soft and forgiving as long as you don't cut corners.

Happy with change

I've always used Arkansas oilstone. Only recently it was decided to try the water stone. My research led me to the conclusion that Naniwa Superstone was one of the best water stones, so I went with them. Not really knowing how to relate the waterstone grit (1000, 5000 etc.) to the oilstone I started with a 5000 grit stone. It's a very good finishing stone and I plan on doing next add a 1000 grit stone. I can add a 10,000 grit stone to complete the set, but that will come later.

High quality stone.

Great stone. The quality seems very high. Some reviews complain that removing the sticker leaves adhesive behind. The trick is to not bend the sticker more than 180 degrees. This separates the adhesive from the plastic. Once you've pulled the edge up, hold the sticker at about a 30 degree angle and, while dragging with your left hand, pull up and to the left. Exactly the opposite with the right hand. There may be some glue left on the stone, but not much. Soak the stone before attempting to…
