WAP54GPE Pitiful range

I have purchased both this device and the WAP200E which are essentially the same device. A very robust interface and a lot of flexibility are available. I've used it as an open WAP but the range is abysmal with minimal interference from trees etc. My condo pool is about 200 feet from my 2nd floor balcony where they were installed with an additional "high gain". Antenna. There is no signal visible anywhere around the pool which is a very disappointing CISCO product.

Pros
  • Network interface - no data
Cons
  • Unfashionable

Linksys Wireless G Exterior Access WAP54GPE

I've installed several of these for customers and have found them to work great when set up correctly. The Linkys device is the best value wireless access point and has at least a 1/2 mile line-of-sight range with the optional antenna.

Pros
  • antennas - 1 external
Cons
  • I don't remember but there was some

Buy something else!

I installed 2 of these and they both have the same performance issues. I have to restart them multiple times a day because the device loses connectivity between its own wireless interface and its own wired interface. When your computer is connected via a wireless network, you lose access to everything outside of the device. You can't even ping the device's own IP address. If you reboot it works for a while. I did a little research and found this to be a common problem. Now I'm trying to get her

Pros
  • Network Interface - N/A
Cons
  • Long wait
