Slow and Frustrating External Enclosure

According to my experience, this external enclosure takes a painfully long time to transfer data. It's not worth the headache..

Pros
  • affordable
Cons
  • very slow speeds

This one Enclosure allowed me to add 4TB of fast, quiet, cooled storage to my desktop (imac) at low cost and minimal noise. I need storage capacity because my photo library doesn't fit on the imac built-in SSD. I chose two 2TB WD RE4 GP drives because they were cheap and big enough and RE4s might be a bit more reliable than consumer drives - we'll see. I measured throughput using Blackmagicdesign's "Disk Speed Test" in the default configuration. individual drives I have 104.5 MB/s when writing,

Pros
  • RAID 0, RAID 1, JBOD or normal mode available
Cons
  • I have no particular complaints about it, everything is fine
