Complex form factor

It's nice that this is both a charger and a 5V output. The board is small, but due to the fact that the components are on both sides, it is difficult to install. Works great but the separate charger and 5v output boards are bigger but easier to assemble.

Pros
  • Easy installation
Cons
  • Weight

Doesn't produce 5v on battery

Judging by the reviews I had high hopes for this unit. Of the five I tested, none were able to boost the battery voltage from 3.7V to 5V. The battery was fully charged and the output was 4.1V on battery power. The output went to 5V when connected to a 5V power supply. They don't work as advertised.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • Some bugs

Simple - not bad for the unit price

Seems to work decently but is unable to sustain 1A output while keeping voltage within USB specs. Charging with a load of one amp resulted in a voltage drop of up to 4.4 volts, which is outside USB specifications. (One of my photos shows 4.4V output while my tester is set for 1A load). The datasheet for the actual chip in this circuit states that its maximum value is actually 800mA. Keeping the load at this level will keep it within the acceptable voltage range. Otherwise, look for a more…

Pros
  • Amazing
Cons
  • Long delivery time

So my photos show the ugliest little power bank I've ever made, but it works great. I've made 8 other prettier ones that are covered in cardboard and tape, random plastic boxes, and even just wrapped in tape. Using 18650 batteries which I got from laptop batteries I found at a flea market. I made a pair with 3 batteries, some with 2 and only 1 as in the picture. The chips are great and easy to use. All I did was buy a basic soldering kit and watch some YouTube videos. I made a few power banks…
