As a seminarian you need a complete 4-volume collection of the Liturgy of the Hours, while before that I only read the Christian prayer. The reading office is now my favorite hour of the day! These texts contain such a wealth of knowledge and practical wisdom that they had a profound effect on my spiritual life in just the week I prayed them! One of the best (must have) purchases I've ever made.

The Liturgy of the Hours IS the prayer of the Church. It has taken me many, many months to figure out how to read the prayers, but now I start my day with the reading office and morning prayer. I end the day with evening prayer. I take what we have with me when I travel. No fear. After figuring out how to use bookmarks and how to keep the order of prayer, I dove into the great prayer of the church. Get the annual guide to help. Instructions in red letters are also found in the liturgical books.

Catholic clergy are required to pray the Liturgy of the Hours every day, and lay people are encouraged to pray the Liturgy of the Hours at least partially as well.
