Stability matters. good for linear measurements

It's so great that you can measure the distance from the top of the eaves to the ground without having a thin metal tape to tilt your head (like a sleeping husband in the Opera) . ), just when I was trying to figure out how long the curtain needs to be to fit a certain room! My carpenter grandfather always carried a Lufkin in his tool box and I had to learn from him. The right tool makes routine work more pleasant.

Pros
  • Extension allows for accurate inside measurements
Cons
  • Functionality

It's an eight foot!

A few years ago, my last 8-foot folding rule broke. These animals are quite difficult to find. Thanks to Revain for providing this tool. Most joinery involves 8-foot measurements of the raw material (lumber, plywood, drywall). The 6-foot rules fall short here. Lufkins is easy to read. They have clearly marked 16 inch centers. The set includes a slide rule for inside dimensions (e.g. cupboards). I'm so glad I finally got my favorite ruler back!

Pros
  • Graduated slide rule, extendable up to 2.40 m
Cons
  • Not everything fits

Cool, but a product of a bygone era.

This is a great novelty from another era, a sort of ruler for measurements that seem more accurate than a tape measure. But it is not robust and is not suitable for long-distance measurements. I would advise any handyman to get one because it's cheap, vintage and the tools are cool. They're beautiful enough to be on display and will be a great conversation starter with guests. You're unlikely to use them regularly, if ever. But you never know when an odd tool might be perfect for one job or…

Pros
  • Heavy duty construction with brass plated connectors and brass plugs to prevent split ends.
Cons
  • reliability.

Poor quality for rulers

UPDATE: Just received a new ruler. This is even worse than the first (fourth photo). Very disappointed in Lafkin. I will send it back for a refund. ============ I needed to replace my grandfather's Lufkin folding rule, so I bought this unit. I increased it to 8 feet because sometimes I need to measure to the ceiling. This new line's connections are sloppier than those of the 70-year-old line it replaced. Not only that, the old one has non-slip metal plates on each side of the hinge that you can

Pros
  • Marked on both sides and both edges
Cons
  • Damaged

Excellent folding/zig zag ruler

I had one my dad had and it broke and got fixed. It's quite old and the numbers are hard to read so I thought I'd buy a new one. I bought this one and found that the numbers are almost flashy (very easy to read), the accuracy seems perfect compared to a couple of tape measures and they all seem correct. My only issue is that it's so difficult to close and I've put some 3-in-1 oil in each of the closing areas, but it still remains terribly difficult to close. That's the only downside I don't…

Pros
  • Extension allows for accurate inside measurements
Cons
  • Available in black only

Lufkins quality has come down badly

Anyone who has owned the old Lufkin line will be very disappointed with the quality of any of the new Lufkin lines. The wood is twisted and bent in most places, making it impossible to lay flat. And it looks very brittle, the wood is cheap and flexible. Older versions had harder wood, making them very strong and allowing me to completely decompose them very quickly. I think if I try to use this ruler quickly it will break, you have to babysit it. My suggestion is to either look for a better…
