Everything seems to be fine. The only drawback is that neither the remote control nor the user manual were included. The online manual says that most of the things I want to do (switch from VHS to DVD) require a remote control to bring up different options. When purchasing this item, remember that you will also need a remote control, TV screen and HDMI cable. Also, the online manual states that only certain brands of DVD are guaranteed to work. this machine is a workhorse

this is the third time i am reviewing this recorder. my hobby is video broadcasting and I use these devices at least 38 hours a week all year round. they are workhorses! All you have to do is register. clean repair and such. 100% reliable. BUT! BEWARE OF NEW ONES THAT HAVE BEEN CHIPED! You're going to have all sorts of problems recording and programming, and hooking it up to a cable box will make those aforementioned problems seem like a drop in the bucket. Works great with DVD-VCR combos

I didn't realize no tuner means no standard coax input either. This is a problem if your cable box ONLY has a coaxial output. With a little ingenuity, by hooking up this unit to the DVD/VCR box that was supposed to replace it, I can now watch/record what's on the TV. This works until I find a suitable RF converter at Walmart. This is a great device, but note that it doesn't support coaxial cable input.
