I bought this item to clean welds in hard to reach places. It works very well and I use it a lot. This doesn't work very well for smoothing large areas; Get a sander with a wider belt if you need to do this. It goes through the straps quickly too, so buy an extra box or two (they're cheap and the rough ones I use cut really fast). As another reviewer noted, this tool is great for grinding door latches. I renovate hotels and recently completed a project where I had to replace all the doors and locks in guest rooms (nearly 100 rooms).
