The shanks on these bits are too soft for SDS plus drill bits

I only had to drill 4 holes 2" deep. I was able to drill all 4 holes but 3 of the drill bits are now unusable and bent as shown in the picture. The 2 bits on the left in the picture were never used. I drilled through a hard concrete wall with an SDS Plus drill bit. The tips of these curved baits are fine, only the shaft of these baits is not hard enough. Structural steel. Beware!

Hot Knife Through Oil

Okay, maybe not a HOT knife, but compared to the one I've used it drilled through blocks quickly and with less pressure. MAYBE I was trying to squeeze too much life out of what I had, but since changing that, my frustration factor has dropped significantly. Not only is it less time per hole, but I'm pressing so gently now that I'm not pressing on the lining as I pass. Maybe a bit of Makita will make a difference with my Makita Bulldog (that's what YOU would say anyway), but overall I'm very…

  • Electric Drill Parts and Accessories

For comparison, cuts like butter

In 30-year-old concrete, I first tried other masonry drill bits with battery-powered impact wrenches to install latch boards for new decking. It did not work. I relented and rented a rock drill from Home Depot and drilled 50 holes - pretty quickly. It wasn't quite like butter, concrete drilling takes some effort, but each hole was drilled in less than a minute. I didn't notice any more effort or time on the last hole than on the first. I guess if I had to complain it would be that I didn't need

Pros
  • Hammer drill bit
Cons
  • Ugly packaging
