Very flexible and strong to a point.

This "lightweight" add-on is only for flares or small light shapers! I bought it to mount the Canon 600ex in places where it is difficult to place stands. I mount it on a super clamp (attached with no extras) and it does the job well. Incredible positioning flexibility and much heavier weight than any flash but I wouldn't trust it for my camera or multiple flash clusters.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Annoying

Used as a macro mount - durable and easy to adjust!

I connected it to a Manfrotto mount (Manfrotto 143BKT) which fits perfectly into the posts at the ends of each arm. The arms are easily adjustable with buttons (they're plastic and seem sturdy, but I'd be careful with them) and the arms can be bent and/or twisted to fit almost any need. My camera is mounted on a bracket and an articulated arm holds my LED light so the light can be directed exactly where I want it. Once I'm done, I can unclip the middle hinge and fold my arm in half for storage.

The more I use it, the more I like it.

I have a bright compact fluorescent lamp in a small handbag (umbrella soft box) on a stand, always ready to hand for quick photos. The articulating arm gives me plenty of flexibility to position myself quickly, such as high above a table for general soft lighting, close to the subject I'm filming, or in front of my face at the computer when I'm ready for Skype. It's easy to get fairly accurate positioning. At first I wanted to send it back, but I'm glad I didn't. The more I use it, the more I…

Exactly what the doctor ordered!

The Manfrotto 196ab-2 Single Articulated Arm is an inexpensive rig that has made my tabletop photography easier. Before purchasing I used various homemade things to place a bright LED light over the subject, sometimes it worked, sometimes. but that is the nature of DIY. This hand solved that problem very well and was 1/4 the price of a Magic Arm so I'm very happy with it. This tool is designed for lighting applications, so if you want to install a 600ws mono light on it, it won't work. Mafrotto

Pros
  • Excellent Overall Performance
Cons
  • Appearance

Compared to traditional C-frames and gobo heads, it is smaller and lighter which can be its strength. The rods are thin-walled 1/2-inch metal tubing and the plastic spigots are 1.375-inch diameter, but they appear strong and durable within their capabilities. The pins on each end only extend when the bolt is removed from the steering knuckle. Each pin has a 1/4-20 threaded hole on one end. The locks hold up well and it works well for 7 inch monitors, microphones or small lights (1-2 pounds) but

It's garbage

I've been a photographer for many years. One of the things you will quickly learn as a photographer is how highly manfrotto is rated by other photographers and the industry at large. I have owned exactly three Manfrotto units and have been totally disappointed on all three occasions. I took this hand to use in the studio. I wanted to use it to store small flags or similar items. Despite its attractive design and pleasing aesthetics, I quickly found that it completely failed in its only real…

Perfect for small strobes or LED

I use the Manfrotto 196AB-2 swivel mount to mount my LED video light in places where tripods can't fit. Child pegs on both ends make it easy to attach to 5/8" and Super Clamps receivers. In addition, the child pegs are designed with 1/4" and 3/8" sockets for accessories such as mounts, arca clamps, adapters etc etc. The reason to buy an articulating arm extender is for flexibility in positioning: Three adjustable knees allow for almost any angle or position Plastic (Manfrotto calls it…

Good alternative to more expensive Manfrotto guns

Manfrotto makes a range of "arms" - 196AB-2 is the cheapest (some of the "Magic Arms" can be 5-6 times more expensive), but it's not something to be ignored! I used a Manfrotto 237HD Heavy-Duty Flex Arm for the Super Clamp (black), but at certain angles it just can't hold any material (goes down), and for the "Heavy Duty" arm it's only for 1 pounds laid out. Looking at this I couldn't find any information about it or examples of its usage, so hopefully this helps - Each of the ends (black parts
