get the job done

My BMW e39 530i is ok - no plastic frame like the original filters and you have to squeeze them a little for a compression fit. They are much cheaper than OEM and made by a good company. It just makes the job feel cheaper than the originals.

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Generally ok but...

Works well not like OEM (no lips) but good price

Wife said the car smelled bad I didn't notice but they helped me. :-) Seems to work fine, installation was easy just because they don't have the lip that the factor type has, making them a bit more "inconvenient" than the originals. You also have to look at the directions (crazy, huh?) to see which way the air is going since there's no lip to orient it. I'd like it better if they had a lip, but that's not a big problem.

Pros
  • Excellent overall performance
Cons
  • old

Excellent alternative to OEM filters on the E39 530i

I found out about these filters on one of the BMW forums. They are half the price of other activated carbon filters and are direct replacements for OEM filters. Changing these filters is easier than changing wiper blades - no need to go to the mechanic. But. Make sure you understand which direction the air is moving! The arrow on the filters should point up. Edit: Thanks for the comment - fixed, arrow direction is "up".

Pros
  • Delivery was very quick
Cons
  • Almost everything ok

Good filter, not very suitable (E39)

As already mentioned, this product is no longer available with a black plastic frame. This change should be mentioned in the product description. These filters do not fit perfectly on my 2003 530isedan. They're a little too big, which means the sides bunch up, so as one gentleman here said, "there are small areas on the side where the filter is bypassed." This worries me because I've always been a Was a fan of Mann filters and used them on my Volvo and VW vehicles. Disappointed by a brand for…

Used these on my '01 540, works great!

Okay yeah they don't have a black plastic thing, I see. but look what you get for the price! If you replace them once a year, the cost will increase over time. But isn't that the purpose of self-maintenance for our BMWs? Install with the arrows pointing up. Make sure you take a clean cloth (or your vacuum cleaner will work too) and clean the filter box and the dust plugs in the corners! Finally, CAREFULLY place the clean air filter in the clean box. You have to be careful around the edges, I…
