I bought this instrument mainly to find a route for my sailboat from my boat. I used it for 30 minutes one day with no problems. The next day the device would not turn on. I thought maybe I accidentally turned it on and the battery died. When I opened the lid, I found moisture inside and the contacts began to corrode badly. I would return the device but I was in Exumas and shipping would make it uneconomical.

I bought this unit to replace a cheaper unit I bought at my local outdoor gear store. It's a little pricey but worth it. There's a belt clip on the carrying case, I'm not entirely sure of that, but it's useful for protecting the device from unnecessary damage. Bought for ice fishing on inland lakes in Michigan. The ice was clean the first time and it worked great. During the second and subsequent trips, the ice melted and refroze at the summit. The ice cream was far from perfect. Despite this, the device still fired and gave accurate depth for the most part. There was only one deviation of about 3 feet (at a depth of 6 feet).
