Misleading listing. Defective hard drives.

The picture of the item clearly shows the old version before "max data" was added. The only reason I bought it was because I thought I was going to get an older version. The last spindle out of 50 I bought was labeled Max Data and I had 21 out of 25 that didn't play on most of my machines. They've clearly changed them, as you can actually see through them now. I've used hundreds of older versions with no problems.

Pros
  • Ideal for file storage, data exchange and multimedia products. That's 5 packs of CD-Rs on one card.
Cons
  • Weight

None of these CDs burned properly

Every CD in the box was defective. Everyone. I've used two different drives (one is BRAND NEW, the other is a few years old on a PC, otherwise works fine) with more or less the same result. The file type didn't matter - the source didn't matter. Some had hiss on the tracks, some just stopped after a song or two. Remember that there were NO BUGS with the burning software (again two different ones - Windows Media Player and a BRAND NEW Roxio) so it seemed like they were fine. I can't return them…

Pros
  • Great for the box office
Cons
  • Some defects

What happened to Maxell quality?

I received a bad delivery 3 months ago. I gave Maxell a few months to fix their crappy drives. Of course, a month ago I ordered 100 discs, and every one of them worked perfectly. I recently ordered another 400, although my copier says all discs run through, when played at least 3 out of 5 start with a static noise ("swirl, swirl, swirl") from about the middle of the disc to the last half The problem is not with my copier, all other brands of discs work fine. I had the same problem 3 months ago.

Pros
  • Ideal for recording music, storing digital photos and archiving data
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Unreadable results, very poor quality

I burned 3 discs and none of them were readable after creation. Tried slower write speeds, alternate file formats, and changing the filename/file structure to make things easier. After spending 2 hours and watching 14 CDs, none of the results worked reliably on 2 different CD players. Some showed directory but then didn't play MP3 files, others were just "unrecognized format". I switched to a Memorex CD I bought from Staples and with the fastest speed and the original filenames/structures for…

CD-R 75 Minute Limit

I have used Maxell CD-Rs exclusively for over 20 years. About a month ago, my bounce rate went from 0% to 75%. I thought I probably had a bad batch but I've tried 3 different vendors in the last month and the drives had the same failure rate. In the last batch I received only 1 of the first 5 failed. I'm a professional recorder and I've found that the first 75 minutes of each disc is fine, but after that it starts skipping. So far I have always easily put more than 79 minutes of music on a…

CDs take precedence over streaming

With CDs, you decide what you want to hear from your old music collection. With streaming, you have to live with AI options that you pay a monthly fee for. With CD Shuttle Play I get a mix of styles, genres and decades that I heard many years ago. I don't know what's going to happen next, but I know it won't be the same artist. I can always click next. Streaming is for those who need background music. Think mixtapes for parties and special occasions. You can create a mix CD or mood stick if you

Maxell used to dominate the record industry.

It's hard because I've had a great deal of respect for Maxell over the years. I have even protected Maxell CDs and told my wife that her computer and burner must be defective as Maxell is high quality and will never cause problems. I recorded the music for the first four CDs in a 50 pack and none of them played on my car CD player. All I got were error messages. A disc started playing, then stopped and an ERROR message appeared. Out of interest, I tried again to write to one of the discs. My…
