Simple upgrade for old recessed downlight

There are old lamps in my house. I have replaced or am in the process of replacing all but one; Recessed lamp above the kitchen sink. Instead of buying an adapter to make it into a junction box (and then buying a light fixture as well) or using one of the hangers that screw into the lamp socket, I went with one of these lamps. The hole in the glass is 4 inches, so this lamp almost completely fills that space. It also runs just under the bottom of the decorative ring giving it a finished look…

Pros
  • 950 lumens - 11 W power consumption - 3000 K warm white. These energy-saving LED bulbs maintain the look of a classic incandescent bulb, but use less energy and last 25,000 hours.
Cons
  • Socket required

No different than conventional incandescent lamps 2700K

I hate soft white 2700K. It makes everything look boring and depressing and you can't see the colors in any way when they're meant to be seen. 3000K seems true to them, but it's a slight deviation from 2700. I've tried Hyperion 4000K bulbs, but they're too similar to daylight's 5000K - harsh and a bit antiseptic. So for anyone who knows enough to look for something cooler than a 2700K bulb but not as cool as a 4-5000K bulb, try TriGlow or Luxrite bulbs. They were a good compromise between that…

Pros
  • Replaces a conventional 75W incandescent lamp or a BR30 recessed lamp. Ideal for lighting kitchen, living room, hallway, dining room, hallway and more.
Cons
  • High price

Boy - very glad I made

We recently installed a new Lutron CL Diva 150 dimmer that controls 6 BR30 downlights. The first bulbs we got were SUNCO BR30 LED 11W (65W equivalent), 3000K warm white, DIMMABLE, indoor and outdoor, and they buzzed quite a bit, especially at around 40-70% power. They even hummed to the fullest. So I reluctantly bought this brand to try. Boy - I sure am glad I did. I replaced the Sunco bulbs with these Maxxima LED BR30 75 Equivalent Dimmables and now everything is very quiet. If you get very…
