The seats on my standard round American toilet are solid and don't move or flex. I prefer plastic seats to wooden seats because of their durable appearance and hygienic properties. I used to have slow closing Mayfair seats in my house. Eventually they will loosen and their slow-closing hinges will stop working, requiring you to force them back into the frame. I can't fault this toilet seat/lid for not fitting in our toilet. I measured the toilet before ordering and assumed our toilet was elongated because it is longer front to back than side. And the dimensions were exactly as the description and the diagram. However, it doesn't fit like it should. Admittedly I don't know much about the variety of toilets and what the terms mean.
