is a really good lens and I like that it is sharp over the whole frame including the corners. What I don't like is that the ring you turn to focus the lens doesn't affect the outcome of the image. I wonder what happens when I use it to photograph things in the distance, or if something is out of focus, what will I do to bring it into focus?

I need this niche lens but for anyone wanting to do the same - I bought it to use with my Nikon D850 to use Create HDRI for VFX/CG (with PTGui). I'm also a professional photographer and have a lot of experience with lenses and this lens is amazingly sharp for the price, although I would never use it for anything other than creating spheres for my CG work. Having looked at other reviews, I would like to emphasize that this is a fully manual lens - no auto focus and no auto iris. The benefit of not having those frills is that the lens is extremely affordable and compact, especially for a fisheye. When I received this lens I was immediately impressed with the build quality. The focus ring is oily and can be rotated with one finger but doesn't wobble. The aperture ring rotates smoothly and makes a pleasant click when switching between apertures. You must shoot in manual "M" mode or your camera will tell you the lens is not attached. This is 100% user error.
