Broken pressure relief spring plug

The only problem I have with the pump at the moment is the pressure release spring plug which was overtightened from the factory. The threaded hex head began to peel off allowing me to replace the spring. I was very frustrated that I was able to change the spring but I couldn't wait for another pump so I went ahead and used it anyway.

  • Absolute Legend

Looks very different than advertised.

I don't trust third parties. This pump looked way worse than what I had seen on the YouTube channel and there were no replacement parts either. If you buy them, make sure you check them when you receive them. I sent mine back because I didn't trust how it got there. This can kill your engine if there is no oil pressure, so put one in pristine condition.

Pros
  • Excellent price
Cons
  • Very expensive

2009 Chevy 5.3 Truck

I installed this oil pump on a friend's 2009 Chevy truck with a 5.3 liter engine. I used a spring that was already installed. His pressure rose about 5 psi. This is a real grinding pump. Made in the USA. It has a Texas camshaft. Delete DOD. I would only use a higher pressure, higher volume pump if you are going to stick with a VVT or DOD system. Otherwise you waste PS. imo

Pros
  • Very Good Price
Cons
  • Fine

Amazing oil pressure

I use this pump on every Silverado/Sierra I work on, even if the pump/cam cover has to be removed. I always use a max psi spring. A 6.0 I put in that has 270,000 miles in good condition will handle 65psi all day on the freeway. One of my 5.3s that wasn't in such good shape at 255,000 miles is doing around 53psi on the freeway. My slightly battered and worn 5.3 can handle 45psi on the freeway. This is only 3 times and I will use this pump whenever I need it. I've also never removed the oil pan…

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks

Good pump but not a 1:1 OE replacement in a high mileage engine.

I installed this high mileage (195,000) 5.3 that had a damaged o-ring on the original pump suction tube. Before replacing the pump and o-ring (failed suction o-rings are the number one cause of low oil pressure in the LS) I got a low oil pressure warning on cold start. Now I have 50psi on start and when hot the oil pressure stays at 40psi. I figured I could also upgrade and replace the oil pump that does the o-ring work and am happy with the restored oil pressure provided by the Melling pump. A

Pros
  • Easy Fit
Cons
  • No Instructions
