🔝 High Volume Melling M55HV Oil Pump: Superior Performance for Efficient Lubrication Review

This was a simple install on my 327 SBC engine. The price compared to other high volume oil pumps was very good. Has been working for almost 2 months now without any problems.

They recommended items that most customers buy with the pump, you'd think the manufacturer included a gasket for 0.99 cents, but no. Most auto parts stores will sell you their pump, which includes the seal, for 99 cents. Find out.

Does not come with a new intermediate shaft with steel bushing attached which is required for use. Failure to use a new countershaft with steel bushing attached will void the warranty and will not be supplied with this pump.

I immediately fitted this brand new pump to my new engine. When I first started it, it ripped off the oil filter gasket and spilled oil everywhere. After reading online I found that this is a fairly common problem with these high volume pumps. Very disappointed in Melling for not solving this problem! Now I need to remove the oil pan from my new engine and replace the oil pump! Of course I will not buy Melling high-voltage pumps again!

This pump was a high RPM Chevy 355 with a 7 liter sump. Works great for the app. Oil pressure is great. If you're using a standard displacement/head oil pump and your engine doesn't rev over 7000 RPM I recommend sticking with the new Melling #M55 standard displacement pump. Even if you put in a new camera or heads or whatever. I've seen these heavy duty pumps eat up the distributor and/or cam gear on small engines at low RPM in a week.
