CHECK ORANGE WIRE

Check your car's wiring diagram. I had to move the orange wire (dash dimmer) to the next socket slot to match the factory wiring harness. If the dashboard lights or radio dimming don't work, check the fuse. If it exploded, you know to move the pin and try again. Luckily I read about it before installing it and used the factory wiring diagram in the service manual to locate the wires in my '99 Jeep Grand Cherokee.

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Minor Repairability

Does what I needed

I bought this wiring harness to adapt an Apple CarPlay enabled head unit to a 1998 Jeep Cherokee. For this application you will need to move the orange wire on the wire harness into place. To do this, simply slide out the blue latch and pull out the pin, move it, and reattach the latch. I pretty easily fitted it into the wiring harness supplied by the radio manufacturer using environmentally sealed butt joints. The color coding is almost permanent on the foil. Just be careful and everything…

Works perfectly in spares

I've been buying Metra for many years. All of her straps snap into place with no issues. If you buy a non-original radio, you don't need to look at the wiring diagram at all. These harnesses are color matched to each radio I have installed. The only things you need to look at in the schematic is the dimming, the remote antenna/amplifier and sometimes the ground wires as they may be connected to one of the other wires or not used at all. But as far as basic functionality, performance and…

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Some bugs

Saves time, good for spares

I used this to install a more modern head unit on my 1999 Chrysler 300m. Getting the job done outside the car is much nicer than cutting off the factory connectors and splicing the wiring inside. I had to move a pen. The dimmer wire had snapped at a slit, which became apparent when I held this harness close to the factory connector. Easy enough to deal with. The pins can be moved by sliding the small blue tab forward on this seat belt connector, moving the pin from one slot to the other, and…

  • Very profitable

  • Almost never

We're going to work for my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee, except for one thing.

I used this wiring harness on my 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Infinity to install the stereo system. It worked fine with one exception. These Jeeps have a separate ground wire that connects to the rear chassis of the original equipment stereo. For this reason, these Metra harnesses do not have a ground wire. However, most aftermarket stereo wiring harnesses include a ground wire. What to do? To avoid having to splice your Jeep's separate ground wire, I would recommend purchasing a 12 gauge…

Pros
  • This is amazing
Cons
  • Contact Seller

Works well when installed correctly. My only complaint is that it would be nice to have a "plug" that both other plugs plug into. Installation Notes in 99 Durango with Infinity System: 1) No Ground Wire: The radio (in Durango 98-03 at least) has a wire that attaches to the back of the factory radio. This wire is the factory ground. Cut off the end and connect it to the ground of the radio. If you are replacing an aftermarket radio, you will likely see a black wire located in the dash and…

Pros
  • Lots of positive emotions
Cons
  • No performance
