Amazing Antenna - Audio & Video Accessory

With two trees and a colored pole in the middle, I've made contacts from western North Carolina to Canada, South America, Italy, California and often more than 10 contacts across the continent. US. I use a Kenwood 570 radio, after installing the antenna tuner I can load all the bands that the radio supports. We heard station numbers from all over the world

Pros
  • Handy Stuff

  • Minor Issues

A good start to a great antenna

As I expected when ordering this antenna, weatherproofing is required prior to installation. I also cleaned up a solder joint or two. I'll most likely make two boards of PlastiDip before I get over this. Otherwise, the antenna is well made, thick wires, good end insulators and a good conductor line. For the money this is value and with a little tweaking it will make a good powerful antenna.

  • Easy to use

Easy to install and excellent performance

This G5RV 102' will not function as a 80m antenna except in the Marconi configuration. As a dipole it is very good on 20m and 40m, depending on the setup, and usable on other bands. For an 80m balanced dipole, the G5RV Max (204ft) is available. I have no doubt that with the right broadband tuners the G5RV antennas can deliver high performance at a very reasonable price compared to many other antennas. -1 star because I don't think this G5RV should be advertised as an 80m antenna. Thanks very…

You need a tuner to use this antenna. But you still need it.

At $60 you can't go wrong. Honestly. These reviewers act like they bought a $500 antenna. This is cheating, he's doing a great job. Today I was listening to a missionary from Calvary Chapel in Nicaragua while sitting in my bedroom near Phoenix. The?. I socialize in Florida, Nebraska, Alabama. 60 bucks, what are you complaining about? I bought an MFJ-939 autotuner and it works great with this antenna. I press the melody, after 2 seconds I speak. Get this antenna, you won't regret it. 73s

Decent antenna with limitations

Suspended between trees about 10 meters away. I originally used it with a RTLSDR key to receive HF/SW. For that it worked really well. Once I got the HF setup I started to see its limitations. Plan to use an external tuner. The internal tuner of my IC-7300 works excellently on 40 and 20 meters (maximum SWR 3:1). I can tune 80 meters in the tuner's "emergency" mode (max SWR 10:1, limited to 50% RF power). I haven't tried other ranges yet. The design is compliant, although the center section…

Installation can be difficult.

You might read reviews of the G5RV antenna and think this guy could be heaven or hell. My experience is that no matter how many changes I made, it just didn't work for me. My problems are probably only my problems and no generalization, first of all do not buy a G5RV antenna. The issues I had was that this particular product is exactly what it says it is but would require some tweaking to make it a permanent install. I have seen some higher quality G5RV antennas that are weather sealed top and…

  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • No performance

My first HF antenna

So not an easy deal. It works great when you pick it up. It must be at a height of 35 feet and must not touch any tree wires. It's 102 feet long, so you'll need something to attach it to something solid and substantial. I climbed the cedar, cut the branches and attached the bracket. I also climbed a red oak tree and cut the branches. I pulled the wire and the trees were only 95 feet apart. After discussing this with other hams, I settled on a nonconductive reel and I was able to untie the wire…
