It doesn't seem to be working.

My cat is microchipped and the scanner did not recognize it despite being declared a universal reader. By sending it back to yourself with a note: you get what you pay for.

great for office electronics

I am a Cat Rescue volunteer and people come to me for the cats they find. This device very quickly identifies the microchip, if the cat has one - then the owner can be tracked by the identification code. Cons: does not save codes; The beep is very loud and will startle some cats.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Incredible piggy bank

Find out which chip you have before you buy.

Works like a champ! Bad reviews from people who don't know what chips/tags they have. We have FDX-B PIT 134.2kHz tags for our reptiles and they work great. He even told me I had FDX B tags on my display! Attached is a picture guide that clearly explains how to use it. "3. Insert tag into antenna loop, press button to read." Will be promoting this reader to friends in Florida to read their PIT tags. MUCH cheaper than $280-$600 readers! Update: 11/20/2020 - also worked on all PIT tags in myโ€ฆ

It works very well but

It works great but is useless if you are not already registered as a chip provider. It is easy to use and quickly locates chips and displays chip numbers. You can then take the chip number, search online for the brand of chip, and call the chip company. But they don't share information from the chip with members of the public, so it doesn't help when you're looking for the owner of a lost pet. A veterinarian or animal shelter set up as a chip supplier should receive this information. While theโ€ฆ

Not universal best barcode scanner

This scanner does not recognize all types of microchips, so the description is inaccurate. I have several pets myself and I often find stray animals and adopt them until I find an owner. I can't just take every animal I find to a vet clinic or animal welfare organization for chip checking, so I wanted to have my own scanner. I didn't want to spend $300-$500 on one when $50 would be enough. I have read many reviews and found conflicting information on most for $50. I finally ordered one to seeโ€ฆ
