Not universal best barcode scanner

This scanner does not recognize all types of microchips, so the description is inaccurate. I have several pets myself and I often find stray animals and adopt them until I find an owner. I can't just take every animal I find to a vet clinic or animal welfare organization for chip checking, so I wanted to have my own scanner. I didn't want to spend $300-$500 on one when $50 would be enough. I have read many reviews and found conflicting information on most for $50. I finally ordered one to see for myself. This scanner charged up and was ready to go in a short time, but when I scanned three of my cats and one vet-chipped dog, the scanner didn't respond. I then tried it on cats that had been microchipped at the Tractor Supply VIP Clinic. The scanner did not respond again. I then tried it on cats who received their chips from the Waco Animal Birth Control Clinic (ABC) and got an immediate response: the scanner displayed the chip number as it was on my paper receipt for each cat. Notes from my vet and found out that Avid chips were used and I remembered reading some reviews that said Avid chips were "old style" and didn't show up on many scanners. The VIP Clinic's records do not reveal which chips they used. Just to make sure my vet's chips were still working, I took my dog to ABC and they scanned her. They immediately read the Avid chip and the display on the scanner showed that it was an Avid chip. at least all chips used in the US. Obviously I need one of the more expensive (and larger) scanners. I called Revain on a number that was supposed to offer technical assistance and spoke to someone who was obviously just looking up the internet and didn't really know anything. information about this product. He asked me questions about charging the battery and assured me that it was universal because it said so in the description. When I told him I had read some reviews that said it didn't work with AVID chips, he looked a little further and made me wait a minute, then came back and said he really didn't read AVID chips . So I sent this one back for a refund.
