Probably not really necessary

I'm a new welder autodidact. Well maybe I should say just a guy trying to learn how to weld. But I've been a metalworker for many years and I probably have many other means of measuring thickness and diameter. So to be honest I probably don't need it. Maybe I just found a new excuse to buy a whole bunch of new tools! lol Anyway what can you say? This is a simple aluminum plate with slots of various sizes. Simple but effective. The dimensions are accurate because they are selected when measuring

Pros
  • Check, measure and check
Cons
  • Little things

Fake photo in terms of how well you can read the numbers.

Good size except the photo is fake in terms of how well you can read the numbers. They are completely unreadable unless you tilt it at the exact right angle to the light. They look like they're printed in light gray on a stainless steel backing. I use mine because it's the only one I have. If I find a better one, it goes in the trash. Miller makes great stuff, but they must have given this project to a school intern with no real work experience and then got him to do the lettering in Photoshop…

Pros
  • Thickness
Cons
  • Some mistakes

For those who cannot see the thickness of the eyeball, this is extremely helpful! If you do TIG work this is almost necessary as the thickness of your metal is very important when looking at amps and I find it more important than the stick as I think the stick is a bit more forgiving when it comes to amps after learning the basics of any of them. Process. I'm pretty sure these laser etched values will fade over time as many have said, so if you're carrying this back and forth to a metal yard it

Pros
  • Industry and Science
Cons
  • Doubt
