Attention buyers, smell of oil!

Ok the setup was huge PITA. Does ND Miatas need an oil separator? Absolutely because it has a GDI engine and I've accumulated about an inch of oil + fluid in just 1,000km. Mishitmoto sells defective products, although this is a known problem - the smell of burnt oil in the cabin is dizzying. This is something seriously confusing. definitely punishable if someone complains. I will not buy any more Mishitmoto products in the future.

Great addition to your ND

Very well thought out item! I installed this using their instructions (on their website, not included) and their YouTube video. It's not 100% clear yet what the purple pipe behind the intake manifold is - you have to look a little, but it's there! I recommend removing the brake booster hose to give yourself a little more wiggle room! Also, you may need to trim the fender cover a bit to route the drain hose, so a good dam/metal cutter might come in handy. After 1000 miles I drained about 1/4 oz.

Pros
  • Great price
Cons
  • Large and bulky

Nothing for me in the emissions system

I bought this product knowing that Mishimoto makes quality products. New direct injection engines suffer from intake valve deposits, so I decided to protect my newly purchased ND MX5 Miata with a Mishimoto trap. Well, a little research after a hasty purchase revealed the location, size and method of draining the catch below the base. Many people have reported a strong smell of oil due to poor construction. The nail in the coffin for me was that Engineering Explained's Jason Fenske didn't…
