This is a high quality easy to read scale. The sides are finely ground and the steel is actually quite thick, giving it a solid weight and a comfortable feel in the hand. Great tool for the engineering office. It's thick enough to be durable yet lightweight. The ends are precisely sharpened. The marker is easy to read and etch so I think it will be long lasting. I decided to try Mitutoyo to save some money (compared to Starrett) and I wasn't disappointed. I've only used their digital measuring tools in the past (which of course are excellent) but this rule is in line with the high quality I've come to expect from them. In my opinion. (See attached photos below) Please note that on either side of the resulting ruler it is inconvenient to use the "top" edge to measure from left to right. It also doesn't meet the 3/4" width specification. In fact, its width varies within 0.7449 inches, or about 0.0051 inches less.
