Scotch Brite made a steel free wool pad that I've used for years. That was great. They looked like Brillo pads and came in boxes of several. It cleaned my pots, lasted absolutely forever and never rusted. Then they disappeared about a year ago. Maybe that's not surprising as I almost never had to buy a new box. UPDATE: 2013-02-20: Just bought a second one, the first one is put on the bathroom floor :) Still LOVE IT! I HATE! HATE steel wool for cleaning. Whatever the packaging says, they will rust and fall apart. All other synthetic rubbers are useless. They are strong yet flexible. I've been using this rug for about a month now, constantly in the kitchen. Dirty cast-iron pans, glass bottoms, cookie sheets that stick to the gunk on your table, you name it, it cleans it.
