Description of ๐ŸŒž Morningstar Remote Temperature Sensor: Enhancing Solar Control & Inverter Performance

The RTS is compatible with SunSaver MPPT, TriStar MPPT, SunKeeper, SunSaver Duo, and ProStar whenever the temperature at the battery will be more than 5ยฐC (9ยฐF) different than the temperature at the controller. The RTS is also protected from lightning surges and short circuits. For maximum protection from harsh environments, the sensor is encapsulated in epoxy inside a power lug housing. Five year warranty.

I haven't installed this particular sensor yet, but I .

I haven't installed this particular sensor yet, but I have others. Temperature compensation is the only way to charge the solar array if you want the regulator to provide the correct voltage. This sensor on the Tristar controller ensures that your batteries are charged as fully as possible, extending their lifespan and giving you more power to play.

Pros
  • Automotive
Cons
  • No power

Keeps batteries fully charged in winter.

Last year I used a Tristar T-60 to keep my batteries charged over the winter. The hydrometer readings showed that these were usually always at an average charge level. With the RTS this winter, the readings show higher battery levels overall. Also the amount of water I had to add to the batteries was drastically reduced. I will never use a lead-acid charge controller without temperature compensation if possible.

Pros
  • Sensors
Cons
  • Almost OK

Should be 4 wires, best in spares

That's it, a remote temp sensor. You can attach it to one of the battery screws or tape it to the side etc. The length of the cable is adequate - I actually cut it in half and used the other half as a voltage sense cable which begs the question, why use Morningstar 4-wire for this? Combining voltage and temperature sensors in one shielded cable? That and the price are my only criticisms. For the price it should be 4 cores in one cable to use voltage and temperature. However, you really need aโ€ฆ

Pros
  • coolant temp
Cons
  • piggy bank price
