NOT WORTH!: Fuel Tanks

DO NOT BUY! Long story short, I bought this for my 2006 Ford Ranger and it worked fine for a short period of time, then the check engine light came on. I took it to my mechanic only to find that it caused my car to have a gas leak.

Pros
  • Satisfied so far
Cons
  • Good but not great

Excellent fuel cap for Ford F150 07

I received a nondescript fuel cap in a standard Jane plastic bag. Had no Ford part number, had no Ford identification logo. Fits perfectly and works as it should. is that a ford I do not know. Will it last 13 years and 150,000 miles like the original Ford? Just take a look.

Pros
  • Nice deal
Cons
  • Easy to service

Gas cap gasket missing

I needed a new gas cap for my 2008 Mercury Mariner, my engine light was on and when I replaced the gas cap the engine light went out for about 5 days but then it came back . Gas cap checked, no seals. I need a seal to make sure it's the gas cap and nothing else.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Mostly ok but...

The fuel cap warning light issue was not resolved

Installed on my 2009 Ford Edge, the fuel cap warning light would not turn off by itself. The light went out and it came back 3 months after installing this gas cap. Bought another new one from an auto parts store this time and the light went out by itself and hasn't come back on since.

Pros
  • GOLS certified
Cons
  • Having problems

Good quality but possibly counterfeit Ford part

This fuel cap comes in Ford packaging and is a quality part however there is no writing on the underside of the cap. I compared it to a cap of the same SKU at the retailer. There was an inscription on the underside of the merchant's cap. This leads me to believe this is a counterfeit Ford part. Time will tell I think.

  • Cool product

OE fitment and functionality is better than aftermarket junk.

After experiencing several aftermarket replacement failures and associated installation issues (sometimes even triggering an evaporative control system code P00455), I began looking for an OEM replacement. Ordered this item, received it quickly, fits/works PERFECTLY and even includes a tether (which snaps in easily). Yes, it costs more, but less than what I spent on a couple of aftermarket caps that were junk (you might as well just stick a rag in the tank opening).

Pros
  • Very Impressive
Cons
  • Very Expensive

Motorcraft gas cap for 2005 F150

The gas cap came in a Ford Motorcraft box and the gas cap fits my 2005 Ford F150. There were no instructions on how to remove or install the cord holding the cover to the vehicle. I unscrewed the old lanyard with needle nose pliers, but simply tucked in the plastic clasp from the new lace. Maybe I could just pull out the old fastener that looks like a plastic screw. While the check fuel cap indicator light is still on, several reviewers indicated that it took a few days for it to go off. Butโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Absolute Legend
Cons
  • Cable shorter than other models

Don't trust a cheap aftermarket

I replaced a 1 year old aftermarket gas cap with this one. I had an issue with some people trying to steal my gas so I replaced my original aftermarket gas cap after the parts dealer assured it would work just like the original; The would-be thief didn't have any gas as new cars have some sort of strainer to keep siphon hoses from getting into the fuel tank, but I still thought a deterrent cap would be a good idea. My check engine light came on almost immediately. Come on because theโ€ฆ
