I used some of these to lower the loop cameras down a few inches to give the cameras a better view under the eaves. Since installing security cameras typically requires three different setups, these ball mounts make installing the cameras easier. So this particular "long" arm is aluminum and the balls at each end are rubberized. The system is fantastic! The design is great/simple! My only problem may be in my application and not in the system. I live in Arizona and my speed can be insane. The large arm length combined with the weight of my Nuvicam caused my arm to sag and the GPS I was trying to hold landed on the dashboard for the first few minutes of use.
