I was hoping that a $200 gimbal would do. I don't have a budget for

Was hoping the $200 stabilizer would be enough. I don't have the budget for a $500 stabilizer, but I don't have a $6,000 lens either. I am very happy with the combination of the GH800 Carbon Fiber with the Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6. It comes with an ARCA compatible mounting plate. For my use I have a longer one which is more suitable. This provides smooth and stable support for the bird in flight, which suits my needs. No alignment problems. Not much to argue with, this is a fairly basic device atโ€ฆ

Where's the quality control!

The processing of the individual parts is good, but they do not fit at all. The bushings that the swing arm pivots in are very sloppy. The outer diameter of the bushings should fit snugly against the vertical support arm, or even with some compression. The device I received had a very sloppy fit. I disassembled the unit and found that there was at least a 1/16 inch gap on each side when attaching these critical parts. To solve this problem I centered the bushings and used epoxy to hold them inโ€ฆ

I wanted a good head but was shocked by Gitzo and Wimberly.

My Canon 5ds and 600mm f4 are now sitting next to me on this gimbal. Equipment for $13,000. I wanted a good head but was shocked at the cost of Gitzo and Wimberly. I use a Manfrotto carbon fiber tripod, so when I saw this Movo carbon fiber head it was 1/4 Wimberly/. I bought it thinking that a decent gimbal head is worth trying. BIG MOVEMENT. pat yourself on the back. This is a very solid, well made mount for my camera and lens. I can adjust the friction, balance the lens, and easily rotate and

Will Robinson danger!

Warning. The archwire attachment system does not meet the standards. Within a minute of attempting this, my camera slid forward off the floor. (Canon 1dx with 300 2.8 and 2x). Luckily I was there to catch him. However, the "oh my god" moment. Upon closer inspection I noticed that the dovetail part (fixed side) was not cut at the same angle as the moving locking part. So there is very little "catch" on this side. So little, in fact, that when I manually tightened the included (pretty crappy)โ€ฆ

as required. Partially disassembled for portability for compactness, the gimbal head was easy to assemble and easy to mount on a tripod. In the first test, my heaviest lens-camera combo was mounted and balanced according to the instructions on the attached sheet. Lenses mounted on Breakthrough, Desmond, Dolica and Peak Design Arca-Swiss compatible plates are easily attached and detached. Rotation and angle adjustment are smooth, and the knobs provide ample locking in desired positions.

Does the job well. in tripods and monopods

works perfectly. I use with Sigma 150-600 Contemporary. Bought best day (much cheaper), used 3 times for bird hunting. The carbon fiber suspension is very light. Ideal for traveling with the CF Trpod. EDIT: ATTENTION! Arca-Swiss jaws only have one actual jaw to hold the mounting plate. The other side is a 90 degree right angle which does not hold the panel well. You can unscrew the mounting plate from the handle just by turning the plate with your hand! Jaws cannot hold anything heavy whileโ€ฆ

Fits almost very well on tripods and monopods

Good: Mine is pretty close to the correct 90 degrees (I think it's about 1 degree but the shape makes it difficult to be exact), and although it is is not very smooth , it moves quite well . Bad: If the tilt screw is loose, it wobbles a bit. Not much, but more than necessary. Also, the base doesn't appear to have been designed with set screws to attach the tripod head (or gimbal in this case) to the tripod. The indentations in the base reduce the weight somewhat, but prevent the set screws from

2 years use with a 600mm f4 lens

This head is inexpensive and can handle very heavy lenses. I've been using this head for 2 years with a Canon 600mm f4. The lens seems stable and secure when installed. The head is fairly durable: I've used it in extreme conditions (Alaska in the winter, Florida in the summer) and it's regularly hit in the trunk of a car. Despite this, it looks and functions exactly as it did when new. The only major complaint I have is trying to carry a tripod (with lens attached) on my shoulder while walking.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • too dull
