Too high for stairs.

We are seniors, new owners of a home with 15 foot ceilings. We have recessed spotlights in the ceiling. This tool made changing lightbulbs much easier.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

So it belongs in the trash can

my light is very high. I figured this product would hold up and help me put a new one in. First, there's nothing on the edges to hold the light. These are all suckers. So if it doesn't work, it could fall on your head. It's just bad. I just opened it up and threw it away.

Pros
  • good thing
Cons
  • everything is fine

Good idea, poor execution

The product came without a handle and nowhere in the product description did I see that the handle was not included! Without a proper grip, this item is useless. I was able to use the mop handle I had but changing the bulbs still didn't work as the suction cup was too weak to hold the bulbs securely. A few lightbulbs fell but luckily none broke. Wouldn't buy it anyway, it doesn't work at all!

  • Good product for the price

Works great and thoughtful design

For many years I used one of the large drawstring suction cups. Everything worked fine, but the suction cup deformed over time and had to be replaced. This changer is made of thicker rubber and I expect it to last longer. It also has a very smart design that doesn't require a filament. Simply pulling down turns off the suction. Before changing a high suction cup, it's a good idea to practice to make sure you know how much pressure is required and feel when suction is reached. For my two 20ftโ€ฆ

Not just for hard to reach lamps

I have several can shaped lamps where the recessed bulb is so close to the wall of the lamp that I can't grab it. This makes it difficult to remove the lamps or, when replacing them, to insert the lamp base into the socket. So although I can get to the lights (without an extension cord), this device has made changing bulbs a lot easier. (However, I would suggest spraying the base of the WD-40 lamp before inserting it to make it easier to remove later, and to avoid the end of the lampโ€ฆ

Keep a ladder in the garage.

Mr. Longarm worked fine for me. I use it for indoor recessed lights. We have 12 foot ceilings with a few light fixtures in the kitchen above the counters that are very difficult to reach with a ladder. It fits my standard color bar with no problems. Wet the cup before use to ensure maximum suction power. I dropped the lightbulb that I took out with the dry cup. I had no problem getting the bowl to release the bulb once installed. Just move them sideways until the vacuum breaks. I suspect thatโ€ฆ

Doesn't hold light bulbs properly

After using this suction cup for a few months, I found it too stiff to stick to headlight bulbs on the high ceiling in my office. When I use this suction cup to pick out old lightbulbs, they usually fall to the ground. I successfully installed the new bulbs, but as I started screwing the new bulb into the socket, the suction cup loses its grip on the building and I have to keep applying pressure to keep the bulb from falling and breaking. The suction cup that used to be at the end of myโ€ฆ

Dangerous Undocumented instructions

I bought this device to use primarily for manually unscrewing and changing bulbs in household ceiling lights. I've been officially changing lightbulbs in my family for 50 years. It looked perfect for hand use (sometimes on a pole), but it was primarily an easy way to use levers on 'available' jigs. After opening it I couldn't understand how it works with so many buttons. a non-rotating collar and "huh?" movements all around that either didn't seem to move at all or otherwise didn't show up asโ€ฆ
