The gold standard for electronic ignition.

The electronic ignition is a great and easy upgrade for an old school spot ignition car. The car starts more reliably and with fewer problems. I used this in a 1967 Mustang restoration and it works great. From my research, the Blaster 3 is something of the gold standard for electronic firing systems.

Pros
  • Dope πŸ”₯
Cons
  • Not bad, but...

Great replacement for the original coil on my Porsche 944

Excellent replacement for the original coil on my Porsche 944 Primary resistance very close to OEM specs. The coil is thinner than the Bosch unit so a shim was required to fit into the bracket. Update: The tip of the revolver is actually separated from the spool and may come loose. When I bought new cables from my car I removed the top of the tower (making it a 2 blaster haha) and plugged the OEM cable connector right into the spool. I also noticed that some oil was leaking from the gasket…

Pros
  • Great for a small house

PURE WASTE. DO NOT BUY.

Installed this coil to raise the coil on my Triumph to clear the engine block. This coil produced fewer sparks and the motor was less powerful than the MSD BLASTER 2 coil I installed the day before. Within two hours the engine died. After returning to our speed shop and removing this coil I noticed this. The extension was very free. I was able to remove the extension. MSD used a steel pan head machine screw as an extension, which screwed to a spark plug boot to which the coil wire was attached.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Guard

MSD Blaster #3 Coil BAD DESIGN!

The original design of the top of the reel was not very good. After literally two minutes of racing and a few runs, I found that the rubber boot on top came loose and the long bolt that set the top in had a lot of play in the bottom and almost fell out entirely as it wasn't installed well. There is some sort of hollow tube that holds the screw head, just gets stuck in it and the metal has been badly crimped to hold it in place then there is a little tattered mesh that looks and resembles metal…

Pros
  • Sturdy construction
Cons
  • No automatic
