I wear jeans with a 42" waist and am 5'10". Waist fits 2xl. However, they are a bit short which makes operating some machines difficult, but I just wear compression shorts underneath. People have complained about the pockets but they are ok. I have a Galaxy Note 8 which is a very large phone and fits in my pocket. One of these occurs with most athletic shorts due to the material and loose fit.

I love these shorts, I'm a short guy 5ft 5in 151in and these shorts fit me. It goes just above my knees and the belt is on my hips. I also love that it has an undergarment insert so my boxers don't pop out of my legs when I work out. If it's anything like their shirts, then he'll be a happy man.

I read some reviews before buying. I have a 38" waist and it's small, but a 40" waist can get loose quickly. I bought XXL and swim in it. I can wear them, but I have to tug on the laces to tighten them. The mesh insert is too large. I think I would be better with XL.
