Nighthawk, more like a nightmare.

Bought to replace a very old NETGEAR N600. It was recommended to me by my ISP (Mediacom). I've been playing around with this for at least 2 hours, doing everything I could find online to troubleshoot, and it wouldn't connect to my cable modem. I was desperate, so I ventured into my local Walmart and bought a $40 Linksys router. I came home, plugged it in and after 10 minutes everything was working.

Pros
  • Few competitors
Cons
  • Upgradeable

WTF Terms of Service

When you first log into this router, you are greeted with a "Terms of Service" agreement with Netgear that you must accept before you can use the router. As soon as I saw the intellectual property rights terms, which basically states that anything you transfer through the router becomes Netgear's intellectual property, I immediately put it back in the box and shipped it back - exactly what Netgear did said if you do not agree to the terms. Do not buy this router. If you take the trouble to read

Pros
  • Glitter
Cons
  • Available in Black Only

2 SSIDs and 2 guest SSIDs and that's pretty much all the features I would use not that cool. Blocking keywords for kids doesn't work with https so it's totally useless because most of the websites use https these days, even if website blocking is used it doesn't work. I upgraded to Asus AC3200 because it has 3 base level SSIDs, 2 of which are 5GHz THEN up to 9 GUEST SSIDs and you can split them between 2.4GHz and 5GHz channels as you like . and to disable/reduce the speed of certain childrenโ€ฆ

  • I'm holding my fists

  • Useless features

Failed to connect to the internet

Unfortunately, after several attempts and 30 minutes of talking to my ISP, this router still hasn't connected to the internet. I've tried more than 10 times, watched videos on youtube etc, pulled my hair out. Yes, I tried the MAC fake angle, but still: nothing. Something is definitely wrong. So I'm going back for a router from another company. If so, is there a pattern of it with Netgear and my connection. My old router was working when I reconnected. Secret. I've given it 2 stars hoping thisโ€ฆ

Fast, reliable, long range... even in crowded and congested areas

Forces you to sign up for a Netgear account. I recommend logging in, using the app, and after setup... delete the app and your account, and then manage your router via local admin/browser login. It is a robust device with a large range and bandwidth (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). router on 3rd floor; I can adequate coverage - up to 1st floor. I bought it for $60. The other two routers I considered were the Netgear MK62 (mesh network) and the Asus AX58U; significantly more money, "future-proof" with AXโ€ฆ

Low quality. I should have known better

Died after 14 months of use. I spent extra money on a "better" product hoping to avoid this situation. I've bought several Netgear routers that have failed in a year or less. I stopped buying Netgear products many years ago after many setbacks (I own a computer service and repair business). I decided to give them a second chance and regretted it. Their switches seem reliable but avoid their routers. Edit: After further research, just avoid all Netgear routers. I've noticed MANY people have hadโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Like everything before

  • Definitely bad product
