Type of review

Public Service Announcement: I have purchased 9 of these refurbished units and 3 had to be returned due to problems ( Two of them all worked, except that some of the ethernet ports were dead - on one of them the Wi-Fi radio wouldn't turn on). The "price of a lemon" is relatively high, so you should know this before you buy it. That being said, if you're happy to test-drive the hardware -- at $40 or less if you can get a good one -- that's a pretty decent price if you're using the stock firmware

Pros
  • Complete Set
Cons
  • Doubtful

Would definitely recommend to anyone I know

I was so nervous about ordering as it is refurbished and some reviews have discussed issues with previous firmware. My apartment complex uses Access Media 3. It is already installed. Residents only need to buy their own modem and router and pay a small fee to connect to the internet. Fortunately, when I connected the router and called, there were no problems. The password that came with the router worked. That's all I had to do. I had no problems at all. No problems with the firmware and other…

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Big and bulky

It's only been a few days since I started this but so far I'm loving it. My previous router had problems connecting to the internet. Laptops and cell phones lose connection every few hours (sometimes minutes). Sometimes you just disconnect and reconnect to the router, and other times it required rebooting the router. But this router is reliable. - Amazing speed, no lag. - Easy setting. Just connect and get started. Even a 6 year old kid could do it. Below was a sticker with a new password in…

  • Great price

Works well for the price (probably the CH version)

Performance wise I like it; at 2.x GHz it averages 100 Mbps, although advertised as 450, and at 5.x GHz it's a little less than 1300; but overall it works better than the old netgear i have (now as a router without wifi). On the plus side, it can act as an access point (compared to older Netgear routers) so it didn't have to be a hassle to disable DHCP (like pass-through) etc. Just plug it in and set it up as either WPA2 (Enterprise requires the use of RADIUS). So for the price paid as a…

Pros
  • Great overall performance
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

Great router for DD-WRT or Tomato firmware

One star deducted for the condition the router was received. I know they are used but the one I received literally looked like a dog toy complete with teeth marks. However, the router worked fine. This is not native Netgear firmware. They have their own bootloader and firmware since they were distributed by the cable company and then eventually became obsolete. There are many instructions online on how to change the bootloader to roll it back to the main firmware and then change it to the open…

  • Impressive

  • Problematic

Great flash router project for the price.

I received this router with virtually no scratches and with all the necessary accessories. After setting up the router, I was redirected to the router's GUI for configuration. Later I changed everything and flashed with a different GUI. I don't like the Netgear GUI in general, but I like how the hardware supports certain third-party custom firmware without spending a lot of money. Great hardware, great price.

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Minor issues

Lots of advanced configuration options and a good selection

So far so good. I was able to configure this router in Access Point mode and disable DHCP services. That way I can keep my cable modem and router in the basement where I have cable access and ethernet cable access and just run this AP on the end of one of the ethernet ports without introducing additional cables or another NAT subnet. To be honest this setup was a bit tricky to get right, but once I learned the jargon (this isn't an example of Bridge mode for example) the setup was very easy…

Pros
  • Glitter
Cons
  • Not as good as it says

The refurbished router I received was actually an R6300v2 sold by Charter and running the original Netgear Firmware has been flashed. There is nothing wrong with that, since it is exactly the same equipment. It works just like the R6300v2 sold directly by Netgear. If you want to flash custom firmware like ddwrt, you need to know that it was originally a charter model. You can verify if your model is a charter by checking the sticker affixed below the original label. If the original tag has an…

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast

  • Extremely slow

BEATS APPLE AIRPORT EXPRESS

I have been having problems with my Apple Airport Express since I first bought it for the purpose I am using it for. I have a band and use a router to connect our mixer to an iPad to control it. I've always had connection problems, but after purchasing this router, which I've read was the best for this purpose, I haven't had any more problems! I love it and am glad I bought it at such a good price.

Pros
  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Is there anything I can add
