You get what you pay for.

If I knew this SDR would be so unreliable without TCXO. Because of the temperature, the frequency jumps everywhere and the thing is basically unusable. If I could return it for an updated model maybe my opinion would be better. But now I just bought another version and it treats me fine. nooelec if you can contact me. We may be able to fix the problem, but I've tried contacting support with no luck.

As long as the little black piece inside stays attached, it works fine

Worked great for a few weeks but then a small piece fell out and was dead. It gets pretty hot and I had to use a USB extension cable to get enough cooling Powered down USB 2.0 hub. Edit: Smooth replacement for a fully working device, so it should return more stars. However, it should not randomly drop pieces.

Great for Baby's First SDR but fits the TXCO model.

Great entry level radio. I still haven't gotten it to work with SDR#, additional configurations, .DLL or whatever is required to read the device. Just couldn't make it. The CubicSDR program on the NooElec homepage works great, surprisingly well on a touchscreen tablet. It's not fantasy, but it shouldn't be. Pretty intuitive for kids and beginners. It gets hot and the included antenna base really needs a magnet or double sided tape or it will fall off. I would spend an extra $5 on a TXCO unit as

Make sure you connect it directly to the motherboard USB ports and not to a hub.

Amazing little SDR that works on my Android phone and PC. After reading it I have to tell you that it is important to connect it to the motherboard and not to a USB hub, otherwise you will overheat the device. I recommend this product and the team behind it. Your tech support has been great! After about 20-25 minutes of working on HDSDR, it disappears from the USB devices list. When it finally gives up, I measure 130.9*F on my Fluke 179 on an RF Nano 2 copper connector. Unfortunately I can't…
