The perfect tortilla fryer for the perfect taco salad

Haven't used it yet but will soon! A very nice young lady served us lunch and we ordered meat taco salads - they were great and we loved the crunchy tortillas with our salads so I asked what they used to make the flour tortilla so perfect , and she shared her secret from Amazon and I ordered right away! We also gave her very good advice because she is so nice and helpful!

Pros
  • Looking forward to it
Cons
  • A few little things

Will NOT fit standard 3.5 liter fryer

I was disappointed that the 6.5" width doesn't fit in my 3.5 liter Bella fryer but it can 4/4 pot filled with oil to fry to perfection. The problem is that most deep fat fryers (rectangular) are not wide enough to accommodate the baskets. If Norpro made different sizes to accommodate different size fryers that would be great. The pot works, just make sure you buy enough oil for frying.

Pros
  • Weight
Cons
  • High price

Good but not perfect

It takes a little practice to get the hang of the tortillas not getting caught in the basket's wires, but after a few tries it's pretty easy. I love making tortilla bowls for salads. With some improvements it could be 5 stars. The biggest issue I had was that the basket itself can't be completely submerged in water so one side of the tortilla doesn't brown and you have to take it out and move it around to toast the other half. The basket needs to be deeper to fully sink into the pan/fryer.

Pros
  • Absolute legend
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Works well for the price

Works well overall. Before assembling the baskets, you need to take the time to shape the flatbreads. If you have a large crease that pulls excessively into the inner basket, the larger one will pop and get stuck. I've tried several variations of it. The best option was corn oil at around 300-325 with a shapely 8 inch tortilla. It took a little longer to cook, but that's the one in the middle, nice and golden brown. The product improvement is 1-2.2 inches, and the base is slightly wider. Theโ€ฆ

My mom loves it! in the kitchen and dining room

I bought an air fryer and it was recommended to me. I thought my mom loved taco salads and that's a good price why not. We've used 12 inch burrito sized flatbreads and they work great. Like the other reviewer, I had the flatbread fold inside out the first time I used it, so once fried I had to break it at that point to get it out. This is easy to fix. When you put your flatbread in, just make sure the creases are inside and you won't have a problem. it's a little tricky to fry the whole thingโ€ฆ
