Good for people with arthritis.

I actually bought this on the recommendation of my Rheumatoid Arthritis Doctor. I had great difficulty opening jars. I'm older but still want to be independent. She suggested I get a wrench and even wrote it down in a notebook. That was great! I can really open jars that I couldn't open before.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • A few minor things

Poor Quality - Can Opener

Many years ago I bought another can opener with the same design. Unfortunately it doesn't have any branding but it's far superior to this Norpro 598 wrench which is made of very poor quality metal and the hinge is NOT properly attached so the wrench is misaligned. I would like to find a better wrench.

Pros
  • Regular Price
Cons
  • Makes me nervous

Norpro 598 Glass Key

I've had one of these for years. I use it to open containers of everything from nail polish to wide mouth jars. This is very handy for hard-to-handle containers. I prefer my old container with no plastic lid. The case is slightly slippery. I couldn't live without this tool, at least I couldn't open most cans without it!

Pros
  • Well Built
Cons
  • Fragile

Doesn't work really well

I wanted a can opener that would help me open large cans. In particular, the Del Monte grapefruit. Do they glue these lids on with superglue? It fits snugly in the can, but then the grips are too far apart to get much torque. The inside of the device is also too smooth. It tends to slip even on small lids. It should have some sort of handle on the part that grips the lid of the jar.

Pros
  • Easy to read control panel
Cons
  • So-so

Exactly what I need!

I bought this opener because I am new to canning and I find it difficult to remove lids from jars without injuring my fingers. I tried using harness handles etc but they weren't very effective. With this opener, all I have to do is put the compound around/under the rim of the lid and lift it up a bit. Works perfectly every time without damaging the lid. Such a simple thing saved me from SUCH problems!

Pros
  • Understandable even for old people
Cons
  • Annoying

Just like the one I lost!

When I couldn't find my old backup I was afraid it was one of those simple things they don't do anymore but it is! I had to use pliers on some of the water bottles because the caps were very tight. This little beauty is simplicity itself. No new gadgets to break, just big (or small) tongs right in the kitchen where and when I need them. I got my first one when I was 18 and this one when I was 71. Some things just work.

Pros
  • Good product for the price
Cons
  • Might damage

A great gift for those who spend time in the kitchen.

I've had a glass key for years. My sister found it for me at a flea market. And i love it. I bought this for my best friend when she was struggling with canning due to Rheumatoid Arthritis. She no longer has to be disappointed when she's home alone and needs to open something! She can too. The large clip at the end is suitable for large jars such as pasta or jelly jars and the like. Smaller curves on the handles work well with things like barbecue sauce, steak sauce, and even soda/colaโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Wide range
Cons
  • Definitely bad product

This is a GREAT hand/wrist friendly tool

This is a GREAT hand/wrist friendly tool. Despite being relatively young at 41, my arms are in bad shape. I've sprained both my wrists several times in my life and I find it difficult to do anything that puts pressure on my wrists - even cutting a steak with a knife or cleaning a counter or pan - the force of these movements on my wrists is also a lot. a lot of. I also have arthritis in my hands so that was a problem. I spent years giving my husband jars to open or pouring hot water over theโ€ฆ

Pros
  • Same as all
Cons
  • For seniors
